Recommended web browsers Articles from Update are available in HTML format for reading online. Although not essential, it is recommended that you use a web browser capable of displaying graphics and tables to make full use of the material available. Examples of such browsers include Netscape's Navigator and Microsoft's Internet Explorer, which are available free of charge for non-commercial use. It is possible to view the articles online with a text only browser such as Lynx, and this may be preferred if your network connection is slow. Articles from Update in Anaesthesia can also be searched by Keyword, or downloaded as PDF file for printing with the Adobe Acrobat reader. [Back to Top] Article Format At the top of each article is a banner similar to the one shown below:
The section under which the article is classified is shown on the left. Other articles of this type are grouped together in the Section Index. Adjacent to this classification are the Next and Previous Article buttons, which enable you to browse through all of the online articles without having to return to the index pages. For example, to browse through the latest edition, you would select the editorial for Update 6 from the Issue Index, then browse through the journal by clicking on the next article button. Buttons to jump to the Issue Index or back to the Home Page are also available in the banner. The second line contains details of the issue number from which the article is taken, and the number of pages it contains. Additional links are provided for jumping to individual pages of multi-page articles. Below the header is a Table of Contents, similar to the one
used for this help page. This enables you to jump to specific areas of an article for reference purposes. You
can return to the table by using either the Back
button built in to your web browser, or by clicking on the A standard footer is present at the end of each page, an example of which is shown below:
If the article is split over several pages, then the Next Page button will be shown. If it is the last page of an article, or the article is only one page long, this will be replaced with a Next Article button. [Back to Top] Graphics Thumbnails of an article's graphics are provided embedded within the text. A double sized version of each picture may be viewed by clicking on the required thumbnail. You can return to the article text by clicking on either the full sized graphic or the Back to Article button. Note: Both of these methods require JavaScript. If your browser does not support this scripting language, then use the Back button of your web browser. [Back to Top] HyperText Links Articles often contain hypertext links to other pages of information. These links are preceded by an icon which describes the type of material available:
Note: It is not necessary to visit the above hypertext links when they are first encountered within the article text. All embedded links are listed again at the end of the article, and may be accessed from there once you have completed reading the article text. [Back to Top] Printing Update Each issue of Update is also available for downloading in the Adobe Acrobat format. These files can be used to print multiple copies of Update for local distribution, or to print a specific article. The issues and reader application can be obtained from the Download Update page.
